I also used to hate the scout, but I found on a lot of 2fort maps people can get carried away with defence and their score and forget what that map is all about. More than once I’ve won the game by scouting across the roof of the bridge whilst everyone else is holed-up in some pointless sewer-raid.

Not to suggest that the game is all about winning - it’s about fun obviously. And sometimes those sewer battles are great fun. But at the same time… if we don’t run over there, they’ll do it to us.

I’ve actually found the Scout quite good at defence recently, despite it quite possibly being the polar opposite of his intended use. His ability to move as fast as a dog with a bee up its arse makes him great for responding to “They’re coming from the sewer!”-type scenarios, and the same speed means he can go to the respawn for health and be back in a flash.

Add to that the ridiculously effective shotgun he has and you’ve got a pretty solid defence class, although he obviously needs complimenting with some sentries and whatnot. It’s even better on the fast-spawn servers I always play on because as soon as an enemy kills me I’m back in his face seconds later shotgunning him up. ;

Me and Ben play extremely regularly, although Tones is getting back into it now he’s done with uni. Just stalk us up when you see our names lit up green in Steam any time, man. ;

The scout is also the only class who can take out a sentry-gun on pure class alone. Of course I’ve only done it once - the dance-around-the-gun-shooting-it-faster-than-it-can-turn manouver. Genius.

Now soldier can run faster than scout, and demoman can do so also with the chargin’ targe. The pain train took away such an awesome and unique aspect of the scout character, the 2x capping. I still love TF2, but just not quite as much.
