Rooh, will you marry me? 10-11-2006, 04:02 PM

FlyFF marriage proposal Those who visited my old blog may recall a post concerning two people who decided to name their first baby after a World of Warcraft character. Needless to say, it was a worrying suggestion; I took a screenshot of the forum thread so you can see for yourself. I don’t think I really need to say any more.

It looks like we have a comparably insane couple though, judging from a thread on some massively multiplayer game forum. In short, a chap named Shinzo has proposed marriage to his girlfriend, Rooh. Complete with paragraphs upon paragraphs of soppy writing, snide comments from the forum’s members, and a blunt “fuck off” from Shinzo in retaliation, it really does make for very amusing reading.

Update: It turns out that the two haven’t ever actually met, and she’s having trouble flying across to meet him for the first time. In addition, the female in the relationship has a MySpace, she’s left an explanatory comment on Digg (do a page search for “Shinzo and I both have real lives”), and a page has gone up documenting the event. Crazy stuff.

Jesus Christ! God. Holy Creeping Death.

They can’t be serious… I mean, ffs, the children! Imagine being able to see your dad propose to your mum - on a chat board. ¬¬

Not to mention all the ridicule that was dished out to him on Digg, the forum in question, dozens of blogs, etc!

It’s almost as pitiable as the kid named after a World of Warcraft character. I think the winning name was something like “Marn Thunderhorn”. :~

Yeah I noticed this on Digg. I’m sorry but just how pathetic can you be to propose to someone on an Internet forum? Anyhow I’m rather intrigued at this new project you have going on Ryan; if you’re looking for additional writers give me a shout. Can you reveal any details on what we can expect? :)

Aaarrggh. “From the first time I added you to MSN??! Is this what it’s come to? Being added to someone’s Myspace has already (apparently ¬) supplanted the blind date, but what next?

Here is a complete tangent about something I read in that bastion of quality journalism, the Daily Express. A man was accused of assault and the witness said he had shouted “By the power of Grayskull!” before the attack.

By the power of Grayskull, indeed.

Apparently, this is a quote from He-man, which is the sort of thing I might know but I’m not very likely to shout it before attacking someone, luckily. Why is it that the fact an attacker quotes He-man seems so much worse than the actual attack? Is it because of our completely justified fear of weirdos and nutters?

I assume so. All such weirdos want locking up permanently, because the idea that they exist in everyday life scares and confuses me.

Heeeee, Huz! Honestly, the people out there. People criticise my cosplay negativity, but wait until you get mugged and stabbed by someone in a LeChuck costume shouting “By my gangrenous gut, you won’t escape the taste of my blade!” or something. Absolute nutters out there.

Oh sorry, missed your comment Sickr. Folded Gamers is a bit of a pet project myself and the chaps linked to on the page have been wanting to get going for months, and is basically going to be a game site/blog donning plenty of feature articles written by the four of us on the subject, plus frequent posts that’ll be similar to those I often write here. The others will of course be posting when they feel like it too.

I guess it could be compared to the likes of BGB or Destructoid, though it won’t have the same type of post frequency from the outset. Most importantly though, it’ll feature good articles, good writers, and will be a generally fun endeavour for authors and readers alike. It’s just going to be the four of us while we get things going, though I’ll get in touch with you once things have gotten going and if you’re still interested then awesome. :)

Wow, sounds like quite an interesting project you’ve got in the works there. There’s definitely room for more quality driven gaming websites out there, and user participation and contributions certainly can help drive these. I’m looking forward to hearing more news as the project finally surfaces, so make sure you keep us all informed with updates : D
